Spring 2013 Class Schedule

Our Fall 2012 Class Schedule is organized by Program Series categories targeted at people with different experience and needs.  Our Foundation Series and Six Week Program are comprised of multiple classes that are designed to be taken within a short period of time.  These must be purchased as a package.  Workshops, Signature Master Classes, and Extension Program classes can be purchased and taken individually.

  • We now offer a $150.00 beginners open studio class for students who want opportunity to work with flowers. This class has a particular design focus, such as hand tied bouquets or low compact centerpieces, and is more casual than our other more intensive classes. 

    This class includes all the flowers, which students take home when finished, and furnishes one spectacular arrangement.

    2. How to purchase flowers, ask the right questions, and speak with wholesalers.
    3. Knowing when and how to buy seasonally and locally grown flowers. 
    4. Each student is responsible to purchase flowers for the rest of the class.

    We meet at the Wholesale Flower Market on West 28th Street to purchase flowers for the remaining classes. We will then reconvene at the FlowerSchool for lunch (provided), and Q&A with a floral design professional.

    We believe that the purchase of flowers is as important as the design. Come with us while we guide the class through the experience of buying fresh flowers for designing.

Lewis' work combines old-world sensitivity and influences with a fresh pop of modernity keeping the look current and new.

In this class Beth will demonstrate how even the most common flowers can be elevated and used in a fresh and modern look.

    Participating students will also be invited to the gala's cocktail reception at the Gotham Hall to enjoy the fruit of their labor and see the design come to full fruition.

  • On the the summer solstice we will design and create a dinner  party in the style of Downton Abbey for a limited number of participants.


    We will visit Matthew Robbins Studio on West 29th street where we will have access to his voluminous prop studio for use in the dinner. After examining and determining the vases, candelabras, and tables, we will visit the flower market and choose the appropriate flowers that will determine the colors of the table. Upon returning from the market, we will condition the  flowers and choose the linens.

    We will set the tables using correct silver, dishes and glassware. We will arrange and place the flowers on the table as well as decorate the chandeliers with flowers. Last minute touches for the table will done. We will then return home to change for the dinner and regroup at FlowerSchool New York at 7:30 where we will enjoy a dinner specifically prepared for us in Downton Abbey style.
    Dress as your favorite character.

  • Welcome to our Flower Shop Series. This series will be lead by Sullivan Owen, one of FlowerSchool NY's most successful alumni, in conjunction with FlowerSchool New York staff. This four part series will take students through the workflow of owning a flower shop and will cover the following subjects: 
    Day One: Morning
    Understanding the type of business that you wish to have is the first task in preparing to open a shop. Do you want to have a shop that focuses on events (wedding and corporate) or gifts (retail) or a combination of the two? We will provide three working models so that you can visualize the type of business that would a best fit. Upfront costs will be discussed.
    Day One: Afternoon
    Section two focuses on preparation for daily orders. Students will be tasked with designing a variety of common requests, ordering the flowers for those designs and making sure they are within budget. Here, we will go over standard pricing practices, presentation, customer expectations and vendor relationships.
