FSNY is very happy to announce our second annual Study Abroad to Holland and France! During this nine day excursion we will immerse ourselves in the history and beauty of florals from the canals of Amsterdam to the boulevards of Paris. We will take tours of some of the most prominent floral hubs in the world such as the Aalsmeer Flower Market and the Rungis Flower Market in Paris, walk amongst the tulips at Keukenof, tour Giverny unlike many others can, and work with some of the world’s most noted and influential designers. Starting where most of the world’s flowers are traded, we will take a private tour of the Aalsmeer Flower Auction where we will get a behind-the-scenes look at this integral aspect of the floral industry.
Lunch at the prestigious restaurant, Restaurant De Kas, led by Michelin rated chef, Gert Jan Hageman. Master mixologist, Mads Voorhoeve, will give a floral cocktail class demonstrating how to incorporate fresh, floral scents in a delicious cocktail.
Floral design workshop with master florist Rob Plattel. This all-day session will be held at the beautiful Historical Garden Aalsmeerwhere they continue to grow ancient rose and lilac varieties using ancient methods and techniques.
“Finding Inspiration in Amsterdam” with Matthew Robbins. Matthew will give an inspirational workshop pairing European influences with American sensibilities. Under Matthew’s tutelege, students will create Dutch masterpieces using the best flowers available in Holland.
Private tour of the famous Keukenhof tulip fields. The largest bulb flower park in the world, Keukenhof covers 32 acres of land with 4.5 million tulips of 100 different varieties.
Four nights at the College Hotel. One of Amsterdam’s most prestigous hotels located in the heart of the De Pijp neighborhood, which is the center of the city’s fashion and museum district.
Rungis Flower Market with Christian Tortu. Under the professional guidence of Christian Tortu, we will purchase flowers at the largest fresh product market in the world, which will be later used in a workshop led by Christian Tortu.
Private Tour of Giverny. Monet’s home and most famous source of inspiration, this once in a lifetime tour will be given by Christian Tortu, a member of Les Amis de Giverny (the Friends of Giverny). Following a group lunch, Christian Tortu will give a class inspired by what we have experienced at Giverny.
Five nights at The Pont Royal Hotel which is located in the historic Saint-Germain section of the Left Bank in Paris. The restaurant in the hotel is a Michelin two-starred restaurant “L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon” with an open kitchen that is much sought after by in-the-know Parisians.
Eat like a local. Group dinners and lunch curated by Christian Tortu. Vetted lists of shops, restaurants and sights in Amsterdam and Paris.
