Branch designs with Sullivan Owen-October 2, 2014

Sullivan Owen gave her first Master Class at FlowerSchool New York this past October 2nd. It was quite a pleasure for Eileen to have Sullivan teaching at FlowerSchool New York since she has seen her grow from dedicated student to accomplished florist after five years of hard work and study. Sullivan took every class we had to offer, worked alongside some of our most talented teachers, and honed her craft by traveling with us to take classes in both Holland and France.

She has recently been featured in Martha Stewart’s Weddings among many other magazines. She has a successful thriving business in Philadelphia and a large presence on social media.

We asked her to do a class working with branches, specifically autumn branches and seasonal flowers. She taught the students how to cut stubborn unyielding branches by leveraging her clippers along the underside of her knee, a trick she learned while working alongside Remco Van Vliet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She worked beautiful magic with Devil’s Walking Stick berries and plum branches, and incorporated Cafe au Lait Dahlias, chocolate Cosmos, Cappuccino Roses, Japanese Lisianthus, and Queen Anne’s lace. Masterful work indeed!
