Our last Master Class of the year was given by the lovely Livia Cetti who is the go-to person for high end paper flowers. Her delightful creations sell for as much as $900.00 each at places like John Derian in the East Village. Her flowers have graced the windows of Jo Malone and she has been featured on Martha Stewart many times. Her methods for making paper flowers have come from her own experience as a florist working for many years with fresh flowers.
In her December class, she taught us how not only how to make flowers from individually dyed sheets of fine tissue papers but also how to wire them efficiently and delicately – a skill important to any florist who works with flowers. We made a stem of Hollyhock in a potted planter which is one of my favorite designs. By the time the class ended, we all felt we had earned a master’s diploma in both wiring and creating paper flowers of extraordinary and lasting beauty. We are all looking forward to her showing us how to make Peonies in her next class on January 8, 2016.
