The Art of Flowers: Olivier Giugni Interprets Piet Mondrian-January 28, 2016

Those of you who know Olivier and those of you who are familiar with his work and the work of Piet Mondrian should understand why the Art of Flowers class he did last week was a perfect fit. Olivier came from the fashion business when he set up Pierre Cardin’s first flower shop in New York at Maxims on Madison Avenue. Pierre Cardin, Yves Saint Laurent and many famous designers of the 60’s and 70’s were deeply influenced by the graphic lines, sharp colors and colorblocking in the paintings of Mondrian and their fashions reflected it. There was a purity of line that Mondrian felt was “spiritual.”

When you look at the designs that he created, you can understand the passion for line and color behind it.
