Turner was considered by many to be the greatest landscape artist of the 19th century. His luminous and atmospheric paintings and watercolors anticipated the French Impressionists in breaking down ordinary, conventional forms of representation. In this class, Shane Connolly will not seek to make a representation of a Turner landscape, but will capture the mood, the colors and the textures of one of his paintings by using carefully considered flowers, vines and other natural materials. Included in the class will be a slideshow of events that Shane has created at the Royal Academy and the Victoria and Albert Museum that link with Turner and other artists.
