Professional Development Series


FlowerSchool New York is excited to offer a two-day series devoted to reinvigorating and re-inspiring florists for the upcoming fall season and beyond. This new Professional Development Series will feature several designers who will impart their particular expertise and know-how, not just looking at technique, but also the larger concepts of design including management, workflow and pricing. This course is intended to help working florists up their skills and management in order to improve their businesses and find new inspiration.

Flower Chandeliers & Living Wall with Ingrid Carozzi of Tin Can Studios

Tin Can Studios has a renowned ability for large-scale installations from living walls, to hanging floral chandeliers. Their work is always impressive and inspiring. In this session, students will assist Ingrid in the development and installation of a floral chandelier and living wall within the FlowerSchool New York space. Here, students will learn the process and mechanics for conceptualizing and implementing these larger projects that Tin Can Studios is so recognized and celebrated for. Ingrid will begin the workshop with a slideshow and Q&A of her past work. Class is limited to 16 participants.


Proposal Writing & Floral Photography with Calvert Crary

In this simulation class, Calvert Crary, will expertly demonstrate how to work through the budgeting aspect of the proposal teaching the class how to “back into” the overall budget and determine the cost of each item of the event using Excel and formalized recipes. Each student will learn the exact and best practice for creating an event budget including designing a healthy mark up for your business.

In the afternoon, Calvert will give a workshop in floral photography drawing upon his years of experience as a fashion photographer. This workshop will give the students the opportunity to understand how cameras work and how to get professional results with their cameras using basic photography principals such as depth of field, shutter speed, ISO and color balance.  Calvert will show the class how to create their own in-home photo studio and how to take different styles of pictures using both a professional camera and IPhone.
