2-Day Introduction to Design Series (Saturday, September 26th - Sunday, September 27th)
The 2-Day Introduction to Design Series teaches students the elemental technical skills of floral design that professional florists use everyday. As we teach the 6 Pillars of Floral Conditioning, this series will cover the first three pillars.
Over this two-day class, students will make four floral arrangements that make use of a variety of flower types and design styles including: {1} using hard-stemmed flowers, like hydrangeas and roses, {2} using soft-stemmed flowers, like tulips or calla lilies, {3} creating a centerpiece vase arrangement with a variety of flowers, and {4} building a hand-tied bouquet in the palm.

After learning the basic floristry techniques in the Introduction Series, the Intermediate Series will introduce the next level of floral design skills and techniques as well as introductions into purchasing flowers and building recipes. This course teaches students invaluable skills of sourcing and buying flowers, which sets up students to become higher quality florists. It will also prepare students to create more arrangement styles, including a bridal bouquet and large-scale branch arrangement. This class teaches the rest of the 6 Pillars of Floral Conditioning, commonly used by professional florists.

The Advanced Design Series builds upon the Introduction and Intermediate Series programs teaching students more advanced techniques, such as color theory, recipe building and, ultimately, developing personal style in floral design. This course gives students the confidence to take their skills to the next level, pushing them to become true floral designers. Students will be taught advanced level techniques and will learn how to differentiate, and create, design styles including organic, classic and modern style. In this series, each student will be responsible for creating a design concept, creating their own color palette for each technique, and selecting flowers to best fit their concept. Guidance is given based on color, texture and scale appropriateness, and new designer mechanic techniques are featured.
In this program, students can expect to {1} build arrangements in new vessels like compotes, {2} designing modern designs aimed at corporate clients, {3} elevating arrangements through vessels, and {4} further their exploration into shape by playing with asymmetrical designs. This Advanced Series program will also give students a chance to begin building their own recipes and delve into learning how to price arrangements.
