Details
Designing with flowers for interior spaces requires more than creating a beautiful arrangement. It begins with understanding the environment, the architecture, and how florals can enhance the experience of a space.
Join Courtney Bowden, founder and owner of August Company and floral designer of 11 years in this hands-on workshop where you'll learn how to approach floral design through the lens of interior styling, creating an impactful seasonal arrangement that feels intentional and perfectly suited to the surroundings. Using rich fall blooms and foliage, students will create a large-scale centerpiece while exploring professional mechanics. We'll discuss how scale, proportion, texture, and color can transform a room and elevate the client experience.
The arrangement designed will be sized for a centerpiece or entryway and feature premium blooms and a luxe vessel.
Students will:
Learn how to scope a space before designing, evaluating layout, scale, lighting, and traffic flow
Understand how textures, finishes, architecture, and furnishings influence floral design decisions
Create a large-scale seasonal centerpiece using professional mechanics for decorative vessels
Explore techniques for designing arrangements that complement, rather than compete with, an interior
Gain confidence in conducting client walkthroughs and identifying opportunities for floral placement
Discover how thoughtful floral design enhances hospitality, residential, retail, and commercial spaces

About the instructor, Courtney Bwoden:
With 11 years of floral design experience spanning four major U.S. markets, New York City, Washington D.C., Denver, and Charlotte, Courtney Bowden recently launched her own venture, August Company, bringing luxe floral experiences to high-end hotels and discerning clients across NYC, including The Four Seasons, Aman Hotel, Armani, Caudalie, and many private clubs and clients across the city.
Passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of designers, she champions formal floral design education as the key to a thriving career. When she’s not crafting stunning arrangements, you’ll find her fueled by cappuccinos, snacking on pints of cherry tomatoes, and grooving to a good 80s new wave playlist.

This class is perfect for florists, interior designers, event professionals, and creatives looking to design with greater intention for residential and commercial interiors. Whether you're hoping to work with recurring clients or simply want to create arrangements that feel deeply connected to their surroundings, this workshop will provide practical techniques and a fresh perspective on designing for space.

Please note: The arrangement pictured is for inspiration—varieties, color palettes, and final designs will vary by class. Flowers are purchased the week of each session, so specific flowers and colors cannot be guaranteed.
