FlowerSchool is bringing our unique method of floral design education to Miami, with a special series of workshops and hands-on classes for the local community.


About Your Instructor
Calvert Crary serves as the executive director of FlowerSchool New York and FlowerSchool Los Angeles. An internationally recognized instructor and mentor, he has taught programs across the United States, Holland, Mexico, and Australia. Calvert’s prestigious industry engagements include designing tables for the Orchid Dinner at The Plaza Hotel, speaking to Garden Clubs across America, and serving as a judge at the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show.
Over his career, he has trained and coached thousands of students—helping them collaborate with top designers, launch new ventures, or restructure existing floral businesses into thriving careers.

Beyond his leadership and teaching, Calvert is an accomplished author whose works include Flower School: A Practical Guide to the Art of Flower Arranging and The Encyclopedia of Cut Flowers: What Flowers to Buy, Where to Buy Them, and How to Keep Them Alive Longer. He was recently featured in The New York Times "Sunday Routine" section in July 2025.

Experience Our 2-Day Introduction to Design Series
Start your floral design education with FlowerSchool, one of the world’s leading institutions for professional floral design education. This immersive two-day course is designed for beginners and taught by Executive Director Calvert Crary, giving you a strong foundation in the principles, techniques, and hands-on skills that professional florists use every day.

Over two days, you’ll learn the fundamentals of floral conditioning, composition, color, and design while creating a series of arrangements to take home and enjoy. Upon completing the series, you will earn a FlowerSchool certificate of completion. You may choose to take only one day of the program and forgo the certificate.
This is the first series of the 6-Week Floral Design Program which, once completed, can be applied towards your full degree!


2-Day Introduction to Design Series with FlowerSchool
Thursday, December 10th - Friday, December 11th
Earn your certificate with FlowerSchool!
The 2-Day Introduction to Design Series teaches students the elemental technical skills of floral design that professional florists use every day. These skills focus on correctly using floral tools, time management when working with florals, working with a variety of flower types, and the basic structures that all floral arrangements are based upon.

Over two days, students will make four floral arrangements that use a variety of flower types and design styles.


Day 1: Mastering the Vase Arrangement
Thursday, December 10th
The first day focuses on working with hard-stemmed flowers and mastering the fundamentals of vase arrangements. Students will create two designs:
Rose Twist
Working with hard-stemmed flowers like roses, students will learn how to build structure, create movement, and develop a balanced arrangement.

Garden Party Arrangement
Students will bring together a variety of flowers to create a lush centerpiece vase arrangement, applying the techniques and principles introduced throughout the day.


Day 2: Mastering the Hand-Tied Bouquet
Friday, December 11th
The second day focuses on soft-stemmed flowers and the techniques unique to bouquet design. Students will create two designs:

Soft-Stemmed Spiraled Arrangement
Working with delicate, soft-stemmed flowers like tulips or irises, students will learn how to create structure and movement while working with more flexible stems.

Hand-Tied Bouquet
Students will learn how to build a hand-tied bouquet in the palm, exploring the techniques that distinguish bouquet design from vase arrangements.
