A New Beginning in Floral Design
Earlier this summer, we were thrilled to hear from our program graduate, Kayla Perez Kraus. Kayla came to FlowerSchool seeking a career shift, and we’ve loved watching her journey unfold. This year, she launched Passeio Studio, a beautifully curated space where her design skills can truly bloom. Plus, she has a fabulous Substack where she shares great stories and insights about all things flowers.

Why Floral Design?
Floral design is more than just arranging flowers. It’s about creating moments, evoking emotions, and telling stories through blooms. When I first stepped into FlowerSchool, I was captivated. The vibrant colors, the intoxicating scents, and the endless possibilities ignited a passion within me. I knew I had to dive deeper.
The Learning Experience
At FlowerSchool, the learning experience is hands-on and immersive. Each class is filled with practical exercises. We learned about different flower types, color theory, and design principles. The instructors were not just teachers; they were mentors. They encouraged us to explore our creativity and find our unique style.
I remember my first project vividly. I was nervous but excited. The moment I arranged my first bouquet, I felt a rush of joy. It was a blend of colors and textures that reflected my personality. That’s when I realized that floral design was my calling.
Building a Business
Launching Passeio Studio was a dream come true. It wasn’t easy, but every challenge was a learning opportunity. I focused on creating a space that reflects my aesthetic and values. I wanted it to be a haven for floral enthusiasts and aspiring florists alike.
Marketing was another adventure. Social media became my best friend. I shared my designs, behind-the-scenes moments, and tips for floral arrangements. Engaging with the community was essential. I loved hearing feedback and connecting with fellow flower lovers.
The Joy of Sharing Knowledge
One of the most rewarding aspects of my journey has been sharing knowledge. I believe in the importance of education in floral design. It’s not just about creating beautiful arrangements; it’s about understanding the art and science behind it.
Through my Substack, I share tips, tutorials, and stories that inspire others. I want to encourage aspiring florists to pursue their dreams. After all, we all start somewhere, and every flower arrangement tells a story.
The Future of Floral Design
As I look ahead, I’m excited about the future of floral design. The industry is evolving, and there are endless possibilities. Sustainability is becoming a priority, and I’m passionate about incorporating eco-friendly practices into my work.
I envision a world where floral design is accessible to everyone. Workshops, online classes, and community events can help bridge the gap. I want to create a space where everyone feels welcome to explore their creativity.
Conclusion: Join the Floral Journey
In conclusion, my journey in floral design has been nothing short of magical. From my time at FlowerSchool to launching Passeio Studio, every step has been a celebration of creativity and passion.
I invite you to join me on this floral journey. Whether you’re an aspiring florist or a floral enthusiast, there’s a place for you in this vibrant community. Let’s explore the beauty of flowers together!
