The Brain Health Benefit: Roots of Innovation

3 min read

From every story, innovation takes root.

At ILA Penthouse and FlowerSchool New York, we believe in the power of bringing people together around meaningful causes. We’re proud to host and sponsor the Brain Health Benefit for the second year in a row, an event supporting the Crary Laboratory and Neuropathology Brain Bank & Research CoRE at Mount Sinai. Their work is helping researchers better understand diseases of the brain, pursue earlier diagnoses, and explore new possibilities for prevention and treatment.

Brain health affects every community. From Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s to traumatic brain injury and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), neurological conditions impact individuals, families, and communities in profound ways. Understanding these diseases requires research that goes beyond what we can see on the surface, and that’s where The Brain Bank plays a vital role.

Understanding the Brain, One Discovery at a Time

Directed by John Crary, MD-PhD, the Crary Laboratory is built on the belief that some of the most important answers to brain diseases can be found in human tissue. While animal models and cell cultures play a role in scientific research, studying human brain tissue allows researchers to investigate the biological changes that occur in the actual disease process.

The Neuropathology Brain Bank & Research CoRE collects and studies donated human brain tissue to better understand a wide range of neurological conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). By combining traditional neuropathology with advanced genetics, transcriptomics, and artificial intelligence, the team is working to identify the molecular events behind these diseases and uncover the earliest changes that may one day make earlier diagnosis and prevention possible.

Their work goes beyond understanding how diseases affect the brain. By investigating the mechanisms that initiate disease, researchers hope to identify opportunities for intervention and help shape the future of brain health.

Scientific progress takes time, collaboration, and sustained funding. Promising research depends on access to resources, advanced technologies, and the people dedicated to asking difficult questions. When funding is at risk, important studies may be delayed or left unfinished, slowing progress toward a better understanding of brain disease.

Supporting organizations like the Crary Laboratory and Neuropathology Brain Bank & Research CoRE helps provide researchers with the resources to continue investigating these complex conditions. It also supports a broader scientific community working toward better diagnostic tools, new approaches to prevention, and improved treatments.

At a time when brain health is an increasingly important public health concern, investing in this research means investing in future generations.

Join Us at the Brain Health Benefit

At ILA Penthouse, we’re proud to welcome the Brain Health Benefit back to our space for another evening of gathering, hospitality, and support. We hosted the inaugural benefit last year, thoughtfully curating the space to create an atmosphere worthy of the occasion, from the floral design and tablescapes to the food, drinks, and details that make an evening feel special. As the home of FlowerSchool New York, flowers and design are naturally part of how we bring a celebration to life, and our team takes care in creating an environment that feels both elevated and inviting for an event with such an important purpose.

We believe hospitality can do more than bring people together. It can create the setting for meaningful conversations, new connections, and collective action. It’s an honor to host the Brain Health Benefit once again and to play a small part in supporting the researchers, patients, and families at the heart of this work.

We hope you’ll join us at ILA Penthouse, raise a glass, learn more about the Brain Bank, and help support the research that can shape the future of brain health.

Support the Brain Health Benefit

Together, we can help turn the generosity of brain donors and their families into new knowledge, greater understanding, and hope for the future.
